WORKSHOP TITLE: Widening Success in Higher Education (WISH)

We are now looking to recruit  early career researchers and practitioners from both the UK and South Africa to take part in our programme (in total 30 participants). The programme starts on the 4th of September 2017 and participants will need to commit to:

  • Contributing to an online discussion group from the 4th of September to 29th of September 2017
  • Attending a developmental workshop in Cape Town from 11th to 13th October 2017
  • Supporting the development of relevant ideas into realisable projects and initiatives that can be taken forward collaboratively after the workshop

 The 30 participants can come from academic institutions and from practice. We are able to offer places to:

  • ten participants from the partner institutions (five from CPUT and five from UEL)
  • ten participants from other higher education institutions (five from the UK and five from South Africa)
  • ten participants from outside academia (NPOs, NGOs, research organisations, professional bodies, governmental agencies, individual practitioners, etc) (five from the UK and five from South Africa)

WORKSHOP THEME:

WISH is a development initiative that brings together early career researchers, educators, practitioners, employers and policy makers from the UK and South Africa to develop realisable projects that increase the quality, range and number of opportunities for diverse students in, and beyond, the creative industries. It is looking to:

  • Widen access to Higher Education
  • Increase participation within Higher Education
  • Ensure student success
  • Enhance employability

 WISH is managed by the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) and the University of East London (UEL).

APPLICATION AND DEADLINE:

The full application form found here must be completed and submitted by the 2nd of May 2017.

Please note that participants are expected to attend all sessions of the workshop (11th-13th of October 2017) and participate in a 4-week online preparatory phase (September 2017).

 Participants

Participants can come from academic institutions and from practice. We are able to offer 30 places in total to:

  • ten participants from the partner institutions (five from CPUT and five from UEL)
  • ten participants from other higher education institutions (five from the UK and five from South Africa)
  • ten participants from  outside academia (NPOs, NGOs, research organisations, professional bodies, governmental agencies, individual practitioners, etc) (five from the UK and five from South Africa)

We can only fund participants from non-commercial institutions.

 Eligibility Criteria

Academic participants must be Early Career Researchers: Early Career Researchers are defined as holding a PhD (or having equivalent research experience) and having up to ten years post-PhD research experience.

Participants from academic institutions must have a research or academic position (a permanent post, research contract, or fellowship etc) at a recognised research institution either in the UK or in South Africa.

Practitioners must be established professionals with a recognised interest in the aims and values of WISH working for non-commercial institutions.  We are actively looking for people whose experience embraces both collaborations with Higher Education and the creative industries.

 Quality Assessment

  1. Experience and relevance of the applicant’s research area and/or professional practice to the workshop
  2. Motivation and contribution to the aims of the workshop
  3. Description of the long term impact expected through the participation in the workshop, including the ability to transform ideas into realisable projects  including the ability to disseminate workshop’s outcomes

Our intention is to notify applicants of the outcome of their application by end of May 2017.
